Yanni Hufnagel Shapes Basketball in Academy-Oriented Universities

Yanni Hufnagel, a young college basketball coach, is changing the fate of the game in academy-focused universities. He is known for recruiting the right talents into various college football teams and grooming them to next level. Wesley Saunders and Jeremy Lin from Harvard are an excellent example of his talent development skills as both of them are now hot NBA stars with a big fan following. Yanni Hufnagel currently works with Nevada Wolf Pack as the team’s assistant coach with impressive results thus far. Now at the age 30, he is on a journey to become the youngest head coach of a college basketball team.

Since childhood, Yanni Hufnagel was passionate about basketball and read many books which explained the strategies of the game and coaching tips. His exposure to the game started when he joined public television station of his town to provide commentary and analysis about the game. While he joined Cornell University for education, Hufnagel became a basketball manager and got a chance to collaborate with New Jersey Nets as part of a summer internship. After graduation, Yanni Hufnagel is invited by his old boss Jeff Capel in Oklahoma to join the team as a graduate assistant coach, and he accepted the offer.

Upon the recommendation from Capel, Hufnagel hired as a volunteer assistant coach at Harvard in 2009. During the period, he traveled extensively to find the talent, hire, and nourish them. Yanni Hufnagel created a right environment for basketball in Harvard and continued there until 2013. In the later years, he worked with Vanderbilt Commodores and California Golden Bears as an assistant coach before joining Nevada. During his period with California, Hufnagel helped the team to secure a 2016 NCAA Tournament berth. He completed his graduation in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. Yanni Hufnagel secured his Mater’s in Adult Higher Education from Oklahoma.
