The DeVos family recently gave Forbes the opportunity to look a little deeper at the finances. The Magazine Recent reports revealed that the DeVoses gave as much as $94 million in the year 2014, ranking the family 20th on its annual Top 50 givers list. The DeVos family gives to a variety of groups including conservative political candidates, education and health and community services. The DeVoses donated $90.9 million in 2013 and $94 million total giving in 2014. The family has a total of five foundations, one of which is run by Dick DeVos.
Dick DeVos is no stranger to giving, just like most of his family. Currently and entrepreneur and a businessman, DeVos career dates back to his beginnings with AmWay, his father’s business. He would eventually take over as CEO of the company and run it for more than a decade.
Dick DeVos’s giving is widespread. He is President of the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation, which has given thousands of dollars to civic, artistic, and economic organizations since the early 90’s. He has helped groups such as ArtPrize Grand Rapids, Grove City College, Hope College and Mars Hill Bible Church. He has even established a scholarship called the The Dick & Betsy DeVos Scholarship established in 2008. This scholarship seeks out MA, MS, or MBA students at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and provides for their educational needs.
It’s clear that the DeVos family takes their responsibility of giving back seriously. There recent decision to become more transparent about their giving is an attempt to motivate others to give as well.
Most people who use Medicare are an the Original Medicare plan, but there are some who opt for a Medicare Advantage Plan. Although users of the plans do so with different insurance companies, they are still full Medicare participants with all Part A and B services provided. The regulations of the various individual plans are themselves have within their plans things that are contractually obligated to abide by Medicare rules. However, the cost is higher for some things and lower for other things than it would be than under Original Medicare. Although there may be a higher payout of average with Medicare Advantage Plans, these plans do usually offer some things that Original Medicare does not.
